US Army seeking 'scalable,available force packages'

The US Army is focused on overcoming readiness challenges due to budget shortfalls, but also hopes to establish favourable force packages that can rapidly respond to a crisis, according to its top officer.

'We have to be ready, we have to be at a higher readiness level, we have to be able to move quickly, and we have to be able to move in scalable and availab;e packages that can respond to unknown contingencies,' Army Chief of Staff General Ray Odierno told reporters during a 7 May breakfast meeting in Washington, DC.
