Group Captain Dominic Toriati – RAF Chinook Force Commander
Under Project Julius the entire UK Royal Air Force (RAF) Chinook fleet of 46 helicopters is being modernised with an advanced cockpit and upgraded Honeywell T-55-714A engines, with the first of these upgraded Chinooks (an HC.4 model) deployed to Afghanistan in November 2012. Group Captain Dominic Toriati, commander of the RAF’s Chinook force and station commander at RAF Odiham, recently told IHS Jane’s what the Project Julius enhancements have meant.
“As clearly demonstrated from our current operational deployment to Afghanistan, our new integrated cockpit, together with the Ground Mission Support Systems (GMSS), has fundamentally changed the way we operate and fight with the aircraft,” Group Capt Toriati said.
