NATO chief calls on EU to bolster its defence capabilities

NATO and national defence policy leaders have warned that European leaders, when they meet in December 2013, must get serious about the EU's defence capabilities and closing the co-ordination gap with NATO to ensure their strategic influence.

The leaders will gather in Brussels in december for the first time in five years to debate defence policy and how to preserve Europe's military prowess and industrial base in the sector.
